Wilderness Access Day in Honor of the Earth
Celebrate with us in the great outdoors...
The only way to really celebrate Earth Day is in the wilderness! On April 19th lace up your hiking shoes and join us at Bommer Canyon for a few hours or the entire day for hiking and/or mountain biking. Enjoy self-guided access in Irvine's Open Space Preserve-South and bring a picnic lunch to enjoy under the beautiful canopy of sycamores in Cattle Camp.

Spring is a breath-taking time in the canyon. The hills are covered with colorful wildflowers, while birds, butterflies and other animals frolic in the warm sun. Don’t forget your camera, because this will be an excellent time to capture nature at its prime! Bring the entire family for this special celebration that will include a variety of Earth Day activities tailored for all ages.

In addition to the regular access day festivities, there will also be various activity tables and information booths hosted by the City of Irvine, the Irvine Ranch Conservancy, and TeamKids! Come see and hear what our Science team is working on, get information on volunteering, make an Earth Day craft or a Native American basket. Native American crafting classes will start on the hour beginning at 10 a.m., the last class starts at 2 p.m. so don’t miss it!

All participants must come with proper hiking or biking attire. Please wear sturdy shoes and clothing appropriate to the activity. If you choose to mountain bike don’t forget your helmet. Ages 17 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, distance and level of difficulty dependent on the trail. Pre-registration is available, but not required. Designated trails will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Trail users are allowed to enter the trails up to one hour prior to closing time and no later. Park closes at 3 p.m.
