BRIAN FLYNN
Newport Beach
Brian Flynn, a resident of Newport, was born in Hollywood and raised in La Mirada, a little suburb southeast of Los Angeles on the border of Orange County. Brian is not a Hollywood movie star, but to many he is a star mountain biker. Granted, he has landed himself in the emergency room by daring to go where no other mountain biker wants to go.
Brian started volunteering with Crystal Cove State Park in 1995 as a
docent and then helped get the open space access for mountain bikers in
Irvine in 2003. Brian's passion for outdoor adventure, particularly mountain biking,
and desire to give back to the community lead him to volunteer
for the Irvine Ranch Conservancy. Like many volunteers, Brian combines
his love for the sport and his dedication to the land.
"To be able to get into places that aren't open (yet) to the public is one of the perks of volunteering," says Brian. "And there's that whole giving back to the community and introducing people to these Natural Landmarks that makes volunteering for IRC a great experience and the best incentives to become a volunteer."
Brian often assists with the Beginner and Intermediate Bike Clinics. In addition, he captures intense moments on video camera and shares them with others. Brian is well-known in the mountain biking community and always offers a smile and helping hand.
Currently, Brian is the media services coordinator for the City of Irvine and also helps with the local Irvine TV. Prior to the City of Irvine, he was the audio visuals specialist for the City of Brea in the Communications and Marketing department. Many lifetimes ago, Brian interned for KABC News L.A. and wrote commercials for KEZY Radio-I guess you can call him a "Jack of all trades."
He graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a bachelor's in Communications. In addition to mountain biking, Brian enjoys kayaking and relaxing on the beach.
