David Louton
Irvine
David was born in Michigan and raised in Bloomfield Township, which is a suburb of Detroit. He moved to California after receiving his bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering from the University of Detroit. Most of his professional experience has been with designing specialized prototypes or new technology development RADAR systems, primarily for the military.
His hobbies include hiking, bicycling, astronomy, photography and dancing. In addition, David is still fascinated with technology and often brings his high-tech toys on hikes including his GPS, Kestrel weather unit, SkyScout Astronomy aid, green lasers, binoculars and cameras.
"I truly enjoy my time on the wildlands and parks for many reasons including experiencing nature in person, the fresh air, exercise, meeting people and spending time with my new naturalist friends,” said David. “I like being a volunteer, because it’s rewarding to give back to the community, by helping people experience the wilderness in a safe and enjoyable way. I’m also thrilled about being a part of the Fire Watch team and helping prevent wildfires."
Dave’s interest in nature began two years ago when he started hiking in the wildlands and parks and fell in love with the natural beauty of the land. His favorite types of activities are the night hikes (without the moon light) and the distance hikes. Dave is also a naturalist with the Laguna Coast Foundation and volunteers with his 14 year old son, Mike, at the Nix nature center. Dave also regularly participates in the cardio hikes sponsored by the Sierra Club.
