Cardio Hike at Your Own Velocity …
Hike and Learn!
If the regular cardio hikes are just a bit too fast for your pace then join us on Saturday, November 8 at 8 a.m. for a shorter and slower version that incorporates a little more interpretation. Get your heart pumping as you learn about the trail and the habitats that exist within the Weir Blind Fremont Loop.
During this introductory cardio hike you’ll trek through three canyons beginning in Weir Canyon then head through lower and upper Blind Canyons, and finally pass the coal mine in Fremont Canyon.
The nine mile adventure will take you through a variety of plant communities, including oak woodland, coastal sage scrub and grassland. In addition, this area is home to hawks, bobcats, lizards, vultures and coyotes. Keep an eye out on the trail for evidence of these animals.
Even though this is a slower cardio hike it is still faster than a walk. Please make sure that you are in excellent physical condition. The program will be at a very quick pace without stopping, over hilly terrain, for two and a half hours.
Remember to bring ample water, a trail snack and sun protection and wear appropriate footwear for the terrain and the activity.
