VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Tom Sabin
Laguna Beach

Tom Sabin grew up in Nevada experiencing the Sierra’s and has been an outdoor enthusiast from a very young age. Tom’s grandfather instilled in him a lifelong passion for nature and outdoor activities including fly fishing, skiing, and hiking.

Since 2007, Tom has been a dedicated volunteer for the Irvine Ranch Conservancy. Most recently, he has been participating in Land Steward programs by helping to re-establish the land to pre-agricultural and pre-livestock days. Despite the grueling work under the hot sun Tom continues to volunteer as much as possible in addition to his full-time job as a landscape architect.

"The people I have met keep me coming back as the ‘pride of ownership’ resonates in all of the volunteers," says Tom. "Frank LLoyd Wright once said 'Study nature, Love nature, Stay close to nature. It will never fail you.'"

As a landscape architect, Tom has been associated with numerous projects on The Irvine Ranch wildlands and is intrigued with the history of the area.

This summer, Tom married his soulmate, Brenda Stark, who is also a lover of the land. Tom and Brenda share an overwhelming amount of passion for the Natural Landmark and take pride in maintaining it for generations to come. They both love nature and enjoy the wildlands to the fullest. Together their extended family consists of three dynamic daughters, Maile, Madeline, and Hailey and one granddaughter Emma.

Tom has a bachelor's of Landscape Architecture from the University of Idaho. He is currently the studio director of EPT Design, a Landscape Architectural and Planning Firm.
