"Upstream…Downstream: Wetlands Connect us all"
World Wetland’s Day Interpretive Hike
Water is the critical element upon which all life depends, and it is wetlands including our rivers, lakes, marshes and floodplains that capture, store and transport water for all of us. Wetlands are a critical part of the water cycle that keeps us supplied with water wherever we live.
Join us on February 1st at 9:30 a.m. in Blackstar Staging Area as we acknowledge World Wetlands Day. This year’s theme is, "Upstream- Downstream: Wetlands Connect us all," World Wetland's Day occurs annually on February 2nd. During this brand new program, we will be exploring our local watershed with a short hike through and along Santiago Creek, near scenic Blackstar Canyon. We'll discuss the importance of freshwater river basins and the threats to their continued health.
Due to the recent rains there is water in the Santiago Creek, which dries out for most of the year, so this is a unique opportunity! Participants will also get to see the stunning Red Rock cliffs and walk through coastal sage scrub and riparian (stream bed) habitat. Come out and get your heart pumping and learn about the importance of our wetlands.
The trail is fairly flat for the duration of the two hour, two mile hike, but there are many rocky areas. Please wear sturdy walking shoes and bring water.
World Wetland's Day is an internationally recognized event, to find out more visit
